The Lola Project: Where Second Chances Begin

The Lola Project is a heartfelt nonprofit dedicated to helping displaced Old English Sheepdogs (OES) find safe, loving homes — and giving them the second chance they deserve.

Inspired by my own dog, Lola, this journey began with a simple phone call from breeders needing help re-homing dogs that had been returned. What I quickly realized was that this wasn’t a one-time situation — it was an ongoing need. And it was something I couldn’t ignore.

Old English Sheepdogs are truly one of a kind. They’re playful, loyal, wildly expressive, and full of personality. As puppies, they’re irresistible — but as they grow (typically around 18 months to two years), their high energy, intense grooming needs, and strong-willed nature can become overwhelming for families who weren’t fully prepared. Sadly, that’s when many of these incredible dogs find themselves needing new homes.

That’s where The Lola Project steps in.

What started as a few connections has grown into a passionate, purpose-driven rescue. We don’t just place dogs — we advocate for them. Every placement is intentional, matching each dog with a home that understands the breed and can provide the structure, patience, and love they need to truly thrive.

Along the way, we help cover the details that make a fresh start possible — travel coordination, vet care, vaccinations, grooming, and everything in between. Because these dogs deserve to walk into their new lives feeling their very best.

Since launching, we’ve had the honor of helping re-home a growing list of incredible dogs — each with their own story, personality, and happy ending. Dogs like Howie, Sweetie, Rosie, Mr. Higgins, Honey, JellyBean, and General have all found their way into loving homes through The Lola Project. And then there’s Buster — my foster fail — who found his forever home right where he belonged, with me.

Every one of them has left a paw print on my heart.

The Lola Project is more than a rescue. It’s a community rooted in compassion, trust, and a deep love for this incredible breed. It’s about understanding that sometimes the best thing we can do for an animal is find them the right environment — even if it looks different than we originally imagined.

This is a labor of love. And it always will be.

Because every dog deserves a home where they are not just cared for — but truly understood.
